Emergency Roof Tarping for Homes and Businesses

A damaged roof doesn’t wait for the insurance adjuster or the next dry week. A properly installed tarp keeps rain out of your attic, ceilings and walls until permanent repairs can be made. It’s often the single most important step in keeping a roof problem from turning into an interior problem.

Residential Roof Tarping

We tarp the roofs East Tennessee homeowners actually have:

  • Shingle roofs: missing, lifted or torn shingles from high winds, and areas where the decking is exposed.
  • Metal roofs: loose or damaged panels, failed fasteners and open seams.
  • Tree impact: limbs or whole trees that punctured the roof. Once the tree is cleared, we cover the opening and protect the damaged decking until it can be rebuilt.

Commercial Roof Tarping and Temporary Roof Protection

A leaking commercial roof can put inventory, equipment and day-to-day operations at risk. McGuire Roofing provides temporary roof protection for commercial buildings across Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia, including:

  • Flat and low-slope membrane roofs: temporary patching and covering of punctures, tears and open seams.
  • Temporary dry-in: covering larger damaged sections to keep the building weather-tight while permanent repairs are planned.
  • Protecting what’s inside: we work with you to prioritize the areas over inventory, equipment and occupied space, so your business can keep running wherever it’s safe to do so.

Emergency Tarping & Water Mitigation: Florida Panhandle & Coastal Alabama

In the Florida Panhandle and coastal Alabama, McGuire Roofing provides emergency roof tarping, temporary roof protection and water mitigation (water extraction, drying and removal of wet materials) only. Areas served: Pensacola, Perdido Key, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Pace/Milton, Fort Walton Beach and Destin, FL; Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Foley and Mobile, AL. Roof repair and replacement are offered in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia only.

What the Tarping Process Looks Like

  1. Assess safely. Our crew checks the roof and structure before anyone works on it. If it isn’t safe to go up, we won’t.
  2. Photo-document the damage. We photograph the damage before it’s covered, so you have a record for your insurance company.
  3. Secure the tarp with battens. We fasten the tarp with wood battens and extend it past the damaged area so wind can’t get under it.
  4. Seal the edges. Edges and seams are secured to direct water off the roof, not under the tarp.
  5. Plan the permanent repair. Once your roof is protected, we walk you through repair or replacement options (repair and replacement are available in TN, NC, SC, KY and GA).

Why Proper Tarping Matters

A tarp that’s just weighed down with bricks or nailed loosely can blow off in the next storm, or channel water right into the house. A properly secured tarp helps stop ongoing leaks, protects insulation, drywall and belongings, and buys you time to make good decisions about permanent repairs.

It can matter for insurance, too. Many homeowners and commercial policies ask policyholders to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage after a loss. Coverage is up to your insurer and your policy, so check with your agent, but getting the roof covered quickly and documenting it is generally a smart move.

Water Mitigation After Roof Leaks

When water has already gotten inside, we can coordinate water mitigation along with your tarping, so you’re not juggling separate crews. Our water mitigation services include:

  • Water extraction from affected areas.
  • Drying the structure and affected spaces.
  • Removal of wet materials such as drywall, insulation and carpet pad that can’t be saved.

Storm Damage Roof Inspections

Not all storm damage is obvious from the driveway. We check for wind damage (lifted, creased or missing shingles and damaged flashing), hail damage (bruised shingles, granule loss and dented metal), tree damage and leaks, and we walk you through what we find with photos. You’ll get an honest assessment of whether the roof can be repaired or needs replacing.

Permanent Roof Repair and Replacement

A tarp is temporary. Once your roof is protected and documented, we’ll plan the permanent fix, from a targeted repair to a full replacement. As a GAF Master Elite contractor, McGuire Roofing can offer GAF’s strongest warranties on qualifying roofs. We work on residential shingle roofs, metal roofing, slate roofs, commercial roofs and gutters.

Working With Your Insurance Company

We can photo-document the damage, provide a written estimate and meet your adjuster at the property. Your claim is between you and your insurance company: you decide whether to file, and your insurer makes the coverage decisions. We’ll never promise a “free roof” or offer to waive or cover your deductible.

Watch Out for Storm Chasers

  • Hire local. Look for a physical address. Ours is 623 Simmons Road, Suite 1, Knoxville.
  • Check licensing and insurance before anyone gets on your roof.
  • Don’t sign on the spot or pay in full upfront.
  • Walk away from deductible waivers and “free roof” offers.
  • Read anything you sign. Some contracts give the contractor rights over your insurance claim.

Emergency Roof Tarping FAQs

How fast can you tarp my roof?

We work to get damaged roofs covered as fast as possible. Timing depends on weather, safety conditions and how many calls come in after a storm, so call 865-338-7663 as soon as you can.

How long does a roof tarp last?

A tarp is a temporary fix meant to protect your roof until permanent repairs are made. How long it holds up depends on weather and installation, which is why we secure tarps with battens and plan the permanent repair promptly.

Does insurance cover emergency roof tarping?

It depends on your policy and your insurer. Many policies expect policyholders to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, so check with your insurance agent. We photo-document the damage and the work for your records.

Can you remove a tree from my roof?

Yes. If a storm leaves a tree on your roof, our emergency crew can safely remove the tree and limbs, tarp the opening and plan the permanent roof repair, all with one company. Call 865-338-7663.

Do you tarp commercial flat roofs?

Yes. We provide temporary patching, tarping and dry-in for flat and low-slope membrane roofs on commercial buildings in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia.

Do you offer water mitigation?

Yes. We can coordinate water extraction, drying and removal of wet drywall, insulation and carpet pad along with your roof tarping after a leak.

What should I do before you arrive?

Get everyone safe and stay off the roof. If it’s safe, move belongings away from leaks, put buckets under drips, turn off power to wet areas, and photograph the damage inside and out.

Commercial Roof Snow Removal

Heavy snow and ice can overload a flat or low-slope roof fast, and when the weight builds up, decking and steel can fail. McGuire Roofing removes snow from commercial roofs across East Tennessee using methods that protect the membrane. We clear drains and scuppers so meltwater can drain, and we inspect for damage once the roof is clear.
